This years’ “Wind Boom in Texas” 2nd German American Wind Energy Conference” in Austin, Texas was a success with more than 70 participants. “This conference confirms that wind energy will continue to be a strong growing industry not only in Texas, but also in the U.S.,” said Jan Christoph Wiedemann, Managing Director of the German American Chamber of the Southern US, Inc.’s Texas Office. “It has the purpose of bringing German and American businesses together to exchange ideas and experiences and learn more about the newest technologies and developments.”
Leading German and U.S. experts gave an overview of current trends in the wind energy industry. Opening remarks were made by Roland Herrmann, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany to Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico, who spoke about the importance of wind energy in the U.S. and Germany.
Scott Mueller, a Consultant commissioned by the Renewable Energies Export Initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Technology talked about the wind energy policies in Germany and the status of the global wind energy market. Lars Velser from the German Wind Energy Association (BWE), informed the audience about the trends and developments of wind energy in Germany. Nancy Dahlke from Key Wind Energy GmbH brought conference participants up to date on the newest developments and technologies in the wind energy industry.
U.S. key note speaker Patrick Woodson, Chief Development Officer at E.ON Climate & Renewable North America Inc, gave the audience an impressive overview of the current state of wind energy in Texas and its future potential. Dwain Roger, Deputy Commissioners at the Texas General Land Office (GLO), explained the duties of the GLO and gave a report on the potential of Texas State Lands for wind energy.
In addition to the speakers, the participating German companies gave presentations about their products and services. They joined the conference to establish business contacts with the Texan wind industry.
In the afternoon Bob Webb, General Consul of the Biofuels Power Corporation, moderated a panel discussion on “What’s ahead for Wind Energy in 2010”. Panelists were Steve Wiese, Scott Mueller, Lars Velser and Nancy Dahlke. Steve Wiese began the panel discussion with a short presentation on “What’s Ahead for Texas Wind Energy in 2010.”
This conference was sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) as part of the Renewable Energies Export Initiative. It was organized by the German Chamber of Commerce of the Southern US, Inc., Texas office in cooperation with the Austin Chamber of Commerce, Texas Renewable Energy Industries Association (TREIA), and the Texas Wind Energy Clearinghouse.
